Not Sure This Is The Right System?
Request a Free Solar ProposalMost portable power stations give you one 120V leg and about 2,000W. This one gives you 6,000W across true 120/240V split phase, through three 20A outlets and one 30A, out of a box you can wheel into a garage. That is well pump and 240V compressor territory from something that needs no install, no permit and no electrician.
Read this part before you buy, because it is the thing people get wrong. The 6,000W is the output. The storage is 3,600Wh, which is a little over an hour at full tilt. This unit is built for how much you can run at once, not how long you can run it. If you want days of autonomy rather than hours, that is what the expansion batteries are for, and each one adds another 3,600Wh. Size the output for your biggest load and the battery for how long you need it, and this is an easy machine to own. Buy it expecting a whole-home battery bank and it will disappoint you.
Runtimes below are from a full charge with nothing coming in, based on roughly 3,060Wh reaching your outlets. Oscal publishes the 3,600Wh nameplate but does not publish an inverter efficiency figure, so we allow 85% for conversion loss rather than quoting the nameplate as if all of it reaches the socket. If Oscal publishes a figure we will use theirs. Divide 3,060 by what an appliance draws and you get the hours, which is arithmetic you can check rather than a claim you have to trust.
| Load | Draw | On the unit alone | Plus 1 extra battery |
| Chest freezer | ~100W avg | ~30 hours | ~61 hours |
| Refrigerator | ~150W avg | ~20 hours | ~40 hours |
| Lights, electronics, internet | ~300W | ~10 hours | ~20 hours |
| Full household (essentials only) | ~800W avg | ~3 hours | ~7 hours |
| Window AC unit | ~900W | ~3 hours | ~6 hours |
| Microwave | 1,000W | ~3 hours cumulative | ~6 hours cumulative |
| Well pump (1HP), running | ~1,200W | ~2 hours | ~5 hours |
| Central AC (2-ton) | ~3,000W | ~1 hour | ~2 hours |
| Electric water heater | ~4,500W | ~40 minutes | ~1 hour |
A well pump does not run for two hours, it runs for ninety seconds when someone opens a tap, so treat the bottom rows as the ceiling for each load in isolation rather than a duty cycle. The rows that matter for an outage are the top three: a fridge and a freezer and your internet come through a day and a night on the unit alone, and closer to three days with two extra batteries. The bank is expandable to fifteen batteries and 57.6kWh total, so the ceiling here is budget rather than hardware.
Two decisions, and they are easier apart than together. Neither changes the unit itself, so you can also add either later.
| The choice | What it changes | How to decide |
|
Extra batteries None, 1, or 2 |
Each BP3600 adds 3,600Wh, roughly doubling then tripling every runtime in the table above. Output stays 6,000W either way. | Look at the runtime table. If a day and a night on the fridge is enough, take none. If you are planning for multi-day outages, take one or two. |
|
Solar panels None, or 1 to 4 x 400W |
Lets the unit recharge itself without a wall outlet. The unit accepts up to 1,500W of solar input, so a fourth panel adds capture in poor light rather than raising the ceiling. | Take panels if the outage you are worried about lasts longer than the battery does. For short outages the wall outlet recharges it faster. Three or four panels need a Y-branch to combine them, which we put on the order for you. |
True 120/240V split phase, 6,000W - Three 20A outlets and one 30A, pure sine wave. The 240V leg is what separates this from almost every portable power station at the price, and it is what lets it run a well pump, a compressor or a 240V tool without a transformer.
3,600Wh LiFePO4, rated 3,500 cycles to 80% - Lithium iron phosphate rather than the NMC chemistry in most consumer power stations. At one cycle a day that rating is most of a decade.
Expandable to 57.6kWh - Up to fifteen BP3600 batteries alongside the built-in 3,600Wh. You can start with the unit alone and add capacity as budget allows, which is not true of a sealed power station.
Recharges in about two hours - 1.96 hours at the full 2,200W AC input. Solar, car and generator charging are all supported, and it accepts AC and solar together.
Runs indoors - No fumes, no fuel, no carbon monoxide. It sits in a utility room or a hallway during an outage, which a gas generator cannot do.
App monitoring over WiFi and Bluetooth - Live draw, state of charge and settings from your phone, so you are not walking to the unit to see where you are.
Eight-layer BMS and a 4 year warranty - Protection against overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, over-voltage and temperature excursion, and a warranty term longer than most of this category.

It will not charge below freezing. The manual gives a charging range of 32°F to 113°F and a discharging range of 14°F to 113°F. That is the LiFePO4 chemistry protecting itself, not a fault, and every lithium battery of this type behaves the same way. It matters here because a winter storm outage is exactly when you want it working. Keep it somewhere that stays above freezing. An unheated garage in a northern winter is the wrong place for it; a utility room or a hallway is the right one.
Your recharge speed depends on the outlet. The 1.96 hour figure is at the full 2,200W input, which needs a 240V outlet. On an ordinary 120V household outlet the unit draws 1,800W and takes roughly two and a half hours. On solar it accepts up to 1,500W, which is roughly three hours in strong sun. All three are fast; just size your expectations to the outlet you actually have.
Tell us your solar run length. Panels connect to the unit with an extension cable, and three or four panels need a Y-branch to combine them. Rather than make you pick a cable length off a dropdown and guess, we size it against the distance from where the panels sit to where the unit sits and put the right one on the order. Measure that distance before you call and add some slack, because running short is the mistake people make.
It weighs 101 lbs. That is two people, or one person and a hand truck. Work out where it lives before it arrives, and remember it needs to be near enough to what you are powering that your extension cords reach.
How it ships. Freight on a pallet, typically 5 to 10 business days, which runs longer than the parcel deliveries in our shipping policy. Liftgate is included at no charge, so it comes off the truck and onto the ground at your address. The carrier will contact you to schedule and someone needs to be there to receive it. Inspect before you sign. Damaged in transit? We cover it.
Every configuration includes the unit and all three charging cables. Batteries and panels follow whatever you select above.

All three hold the same 3,600Wh in the base unit. What separates them is how much you can run at once, and how far the storage stretches.

|
Oscal PowerMax 3600 3,000W, 3,600Wh, 120V only |
The same battery and the same runtimes, on half the output and no 240V leg. Costs several hundred less. | Nothing you need to run is 240V, and 3,000W covers what is on at once. Most households running a fridge, a freezer and electronics are in this box. |
|
This unit 6,000W, 3,600Wh, 120/240V |
Double the output and a true 240V split phase leg, on the same storage. | You have a well pump, a 240V tool, or several large things that need to run at the same time. |
|
This unit plus BP3600 batteries 6,000W, 7.2kWh or more |
Output stays the same. Every runtime in the table doubles per battery added, up to fifteen batteries and 57.6kWh. | The outage you are planning for lasts longer than a day, or this is a primary off-grid supply rather than a backup. |
Two questions decide this purchase, and both are quicker on the phone than on a spec sheet: what is the largest thing you need to start, and how many hours do you need to cover. Our sales engineers will work through your actual appliances, tell you honestly when the PowerMax 3600 is enough and saves you money, and size the battery and panel count against the outage you are actually planning for rather than the worst one imaginable. Can this power my whole house?
It can power most of what is in a house, but not for long on the base unit. 6,000W and a 240V leg will run a well pump, a refrigerator, a freezer, lighting and electronics at the same time. The limit is energy rather than capability: 3,600Wh is about three hours of a full household essentials load. For a genuine multi-day whole-home supply you want expansion batteries, or a rack-battery system rather than a portable unit. Call us and we will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on.
Will it start my well pump?
A 1HP pump runs at roughly 1,200W and draws several times that for the first second or two while the motor starts. 6,000W of continuous output is generous headroom for that, and the 240V leg is what most portable stations lack. Oscal does not publish a surge rating for this unit, so if you have a large or hard-starting pump, call us with the nameplate details before you buy rather than after.
How much solar can it take?
Up to 1,500W, from a 12 to 60V array at 25A maximum. That is four 400W portable panels wired as two in series and two in parallel. A fourth panel is still worth having in weak light or poor angles, but it does not raise the input ceiling.
Will it work in winter?
It will discharge down to 14°F, so it powers your house in the cold. It will not accept a charge below 32°F. If it lives somewhere that drops below freezing, a cold snap can leave you with a unit you can drain but not refill, which is the opposite of what you want in a winter outage. Keep it indoors.
Can I use it indoors?
Yes. No fuel, no exhaust, no carbon monoxide, and it runs near silently. This is the main practical advantage over a gas generator, and it is why it can sit in a hallway during a storm instead of outside in it.
Can I add batteries later?
Yes, up to fifteen. Each BP3600 adds 3,600Wh and doubles the runtimes on the base unit. Buying the unit now and adding storage later costs nothing in compatibility, so start with what covers your realistic outage and expand if it turns out you need more.
Does it support pass-through charging?
Yes. You can run loads from it while it is charging, so you are not choosing between powering the house and refilling the battery.
How long will the battery last?
Rated 3,500 cycles to 80% of original capacity. At one full cycle a day that is roughly ten years before it drops to 80%, and it keeps working past that. LiFePO4 is the longer-lived and more thermally stable of the two chemistries used in this category.
Can I monitor it remotely?
Yes, through the Oscal Smart App over WiFi or Bluetooth. Live draw, state of charge and settings from your phone.
