Not Sure This Is The Right System?
Request a Free Solar ProposalThis is the 12,000W kit built around the array rather than the battery. Sixteen bifacial panels make 7,200W of solar, which produces roughly 29 to 36kWh on a good day against a bank that holds 20.48kWh. On most days the array refills the battery by mid-afternoon and runs the house on what is left over, which is a different way to live off-grid than drawing down a large bank overnight and hoping tomorrow is sunny.
The inverter is an all-in-one: 12,000W continuous, 24,000W peak, dual MPPT solar built in, and a 120A charger for generator days. It converts at 92% and weighs 61.7 lbs, where the low-frequency 12,000W inverter in our SGR-12K20E converts at 88% and weighs 159.5 lbs. Two kits, the same output rating, opposite priorities. This one gives you more solar and more usable energy out of every stored kilowatt-hour. That one gives you 36,000W of surge for equipment that starts hard.
Two versions, one difference. The FR-12K20CP ships four CoreX 5 Pro server rack batteries with mounting brackets. The FR-12K20CE ships four CoreX 5 Elite wall-mounted batteries. Same 20.48kWh, same inverter, same sixteen panels. The comparison table further down covers what actually differs.

Three common load profiles, with how long this kit carries each one from a full battery and no sun at all. On a normal day the array is covering most of that draw and the battery barely moves, so treat these as the bad-weather figures rather than the everyday ones.
| Setup | Continuous draw | Runs for |
| Essential. Refrigerator, LED lighting, Starlink or router, phone and laptop charging, a TV. | ~500W | ~33 hours |
| Household. All of the above plus a chest freezer, ceiling fans, a home office, a well pump cycling, microwave and power tool bursts. | ~1,500W | ~11 hours |
| Heavy. All of the above plus central AC or shop equipment running continuously. | ~3,500W | ~4 hours |
The 7.2kW array produces roughly 29 to 36kWh per day at 4 to 5 peak sun hours, and more than that where the rear face of the panels picks up reflected light. The usable bank is 18.4kWh. That ratio is the point of this kit: the array can refill an empty battery and still carry a full day of household consumption, which is not true of most 12kW systems.
Estimated runtimes below are from a full charge with no solar input, based on 16.9kWh delivered to AC loads. That figure is the 20.48kWh bank less the 10% the battery management system holds back, then less the inverter's 92% conversion efficiency. Real numbers depend on your specific appliances and how many run at once.
| Load | Draw | Runtime on battery alone |
| Chest freezer | ~100W avg | ~169 hours |
| Refrigerator | ~150W avg | ~112 hours |
| Cabin essentials | ~250W avg | ~67 hours |
| Lights, electronics, internet | ~300W | ~56 hours |
| Full household (essentials only) | ~800W avg | ~21 hours |
| Window AC unit | ~900W | ~18 hours |
| Microwave | 1,000W | ~16 hours cumulative |
| Power tools (intermittent) | ~1,200W | ~14 hours |
| Well pump (1HP) | ~1,200W running | ~14 hours |
| Central AC (2-ton) | ~3,000W | ~5 hours |
| Electric water heater | ~4,500W | ~3 hours |
The battery does not cap this inverter. At full 12,000W output the inverter draws about 255A from the 48V bank. Four batteries each sustaining 100A supply 400A. There is no battery-side ceiling here, so the 12,000W on the box is the 12,000W you get. What runs out is stored energy, not current: held flat out at 12,000W this bank lasts a little over an hour. Size the inverter for what starts at once and the battery for how long you need it to last.
Both variants hold 20.48kWh in four 51.2V 100Ah units, both sustain 100A each, both charge at up to 95A, both run the same temperature windows and both carry a ten year warranty. What changes is how they mount and what they tell you.

How it ships. Kits ship freight on a pallet, which runs longer than the parcel deliveries in our shipping policy: typically 5 to 10 business days. Liftgate and pallet jack are included at no charge, so the driver gets it off the truck and onto the ground at your address. Sixteen panels alone are 854 lbs and the whole kit lands around 1,300 lbs, so work out how it gets from the driveway to where it's going before delivery day and have real help lined up. We send tracking as soon as it leaves the warehouse, and the freight carrier will contact you directly to schedule a delivery window. Someone needs to be there to receive it. Inspect the shipment before you sign. Damaged in transit? We cover it.
Installation. Because this is an off-grid system with no utility interconnection, permitting is often simpler than grid-tied solar. Requirements still vary by location, especially for roof-mounted arrays or permanent electrical work, so check with your local building department before installing. At 12,000W, tying into an existing house panel is work for a licensed electrician.
Wire the panels as two strings of eight, one to each tracker. That's what the two PV breakers and two sets of extension cable are for. Eight of these panels in series operate near 241V and reach 280V open circuit, sitting comfortably inside the 125 to 425V tracking window and well under the 500V ceiling even on a cold morning, and each string draws 16A against a 22A tracker limit. Do not parallel two strings into one tracker: at 16A each that is 32A into a 22A input.
The array can grow, and it grows in series. Each tracker accepts 6,600W against the 3,600W it currently carries. Because the tracker's 22A current limit rules out parallel strings of this panel, extra panels go into the existing strings: up to ten per string keeps cold-weather open-circuit voltage safely inside the tracking window, which takes the array to 9,000W. Beyond that the string design changes and we should size it with you.
The battery bank needs a busbar, not a daisy chain. This is the detail most often missed on systems this size. A 12,000W inverter pulls roughly 255A from a 48V bank, and the CoreX manual limits a standard parallel connection to 100A total. Four batteries feeding this inverter must be landed on a properly rated busbar so the current is shared and no single battery cable carries the whole load. Our sales engineers will spec it with your order. It is not expensive, and it is not optional.
Battery cabling is one set, and four batteries need more than one. The kit ships a single 4/0 AWG cable, which is correctly sized for the run between the busbar and the inverter. The four runs from the batteries to the busbar are not in the box. Call us before you order and we will add them, sized to your layout, rather than have you discover it on installation day.
These batteries stop charging at 39°F, not at freezing. The CoreX charge window is 39.2°F to 131°F, which is a little narrower than the standard lithium cells in some of our other kits. They will still discharge down to -4°F, so a cold snap does not leave you without power, but the array will not put energy back in until the battery space warms up. If your battery room is unheated, tell us before you order.
Three kits within a couple of kilowatts of each other that solve different problems. The question is not which is biggest. It is whether your limit is roof space, battery capacity, or what your equipment does at startup.
| Kit | What changes | Take this if |
| SGR-10K25S. 10kW high frequency, 6.6kW solar, 25.6kWh | Less output and less array, more storage, and an enclosed battery cabinet included. Self-heating batteries available. | You need to ride out longer stretches without production, or your battery space gets genuinely cold. |
| This kit. 12kW high frequency, 7.2kW solar, 20.48kWh | The most array of the three and the highest continuous output, with a lighter and more efficient inverter and the least storage. | You have the space for sixteen panels and you would rather generate the energy than store it. |
| SGR-12K20E. 12kW low frequency, 5.4kW solar, 25.6kWh | A transformer inverter with 36,000W of surge, external MPPT controllers, and a quarter more storage. Heavier, less efficient, and far harder to trip. | Something on the property starts hard: a deep well pump, a compressor, shop machinery. |
Three things are worth a call before you order. First, whether you have 344 sq ft of genuinely unshaded space, because this kit's whole advantage depends on it. Second, the battery busbar and the battery-to-busbar cabling described above, which we will spec and add to your order. Third, which battery variant suits your building: rack on a floor, or four 105 lb units on a wall. Our sales engineers will also size the array against your consumption and list the site-specific parts your install needs. Call 877-556-3347.

What is the difference between the FR-12K20CP and the FR-12K20CE?
The batteries, and only the batteries. Both kits have the same inverter, the same sixteen panels, the same 20.48kWh and the same performance. The CP uses four CoreX 5 Pro server rack units and includes four mounting brackets. The CE uses four CoreX 5 Elite wall-mounted units, each with its own LCD display and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth monitoring. Choose on where the batteries are going: a floor or a rack takes the CP, a wall takes the CE. The Elite is 11 lbs heavier per unit, which matters when four of them hang on the same wall.
Why so much solar for a 20.48kWh battery?
Because generating energy is cheaper than storing it. 7,200W of array produces roughly 29 to 36kWh on a good day against a bank that usefully holds 18.4kWh, so the array covers a household's daily consumption and refills the battery in the same day. A system with more battery and less array survives a long stretch of bad weather better. This one runs on sunlight more of the year and costs less per kilowatt-hour generated. If you are in a climate with long dark spells, the SGR-10K25S or the SGR-12K20E is the better shape.
Can this kit really hold 12,000W, or does the battery cap it?
It holds it. Four batteries each sustain 100A, so the bank supplies 400A while the inverter draws about 255A at full output. There is no battery-side ceiling here, which is not true of every kit at this size. What runs out is stored energy: held at a full 12,000W this bank lasts a little over an hour.
Why does the battery bank need a busbar?
Because a 12,000W inverter draws about 255A from a 48V bank, and the CoreX manual limits a standard parallel battery connection to 100A total. Without a busbar the current has nowhere sensible to go and the first battery in the chain carries far more than its share. With one, all four batteries share the load evenly and each stays well inside its 100A rating. This is normal practice at this system size and it is a cheap part, but it has to be planned rather than discovered. Call us and we will spec it with your order, along with the battery-to-busbar cabling that is not in the box.
How should the panels be wired?
Two strings of eight, one to each MPPT tracker. Eight of these panels in series operate near 241V and reach 280V open circuit, which sits in the middle of the 125 to 425V tracking window and well under the 500V ceiling even on a cold morning when panel voltage rises, and each string draws 16A against a 22A tracker limit. Each tracker then handles 3,600W of the 7,200W array against a 6,600W capacity.
Can I add panels or batteries later?
Both. On the solar side, extra panels go into the existing strings rather than into new ones, because the trackers' 22A input limit rules out paralleling two 16A strings. Up to ten panels per string keeps cold-weather voltage inside the tracking window and takes the array to 9,000W. On the battery side, CoreX units parallel up to fifteen. Batteries work best when they match the originals in age and state of health, so if you expect to grow the bank it is worth buying the capacity up front.
How much energy will this generate daily?
The 7.2kW array produces roughly 29 to 36kWh per day at 4 to 5 peak sun hours, plus whatever the rear faces of the panels add. Actual output depends on your location, season, panel angle and shading.
Can I run a generator with this?
Yes. The inverter charges from mains or generator at up to 120A, which is roughly 6.1kW into the battery and takes an empty bank to full in about three hours of run time. Tell us what generator you have when you call, and we will confirm the input configuration against SunGold's specification before you order.
How cold can the batteries get?
They discharge down to -4°F, so a cold night never leaves you without power. Charging is the narrower window: 39.2°F to 131°F. In practice that means an unheated battery room in a real winter will discharge normally but refuse to take a charge until it warms. Neither battery in this kit is self-heating. If that describes your install, call us before ordering and we will point you at a kit that handles it.
Can I install this myself?
Parts of it. Running PV, setting the inverter and wiring the DC side are within reach for someone with real electrical experience, and at 61.7 lbs the inverter is a manageable lift. Tying into a house panel at 12,000W is work for a licensed electrician, hanging four 105 lb batteries on a wall needs the fixings sized properly, and the battery busbar should be specified by someone who has done it before.
Is LiFePO4 safe?
It's the safest widely available lithium chemistry, with strong thermal stability, long service life and minimal maintenance. Every battery includes BMS protection against overcharge, deep discharge, overheating, overload and short circuit.
